Garden on Rails

by Joseph Baldwin   |   Published Oct. 6, 2011

In "The Mobile Garden" from AREA #10, I wrote: "Chicago is a green city in comparison to many, but it still faces problems."

Thanks to the Art on Track event, held on September 17th, 2011, Chicago got a little greener even if only for 5 hours -- and the noisivelvet organization was able to test out the project on a small scale.

The basic idea of the full installation proposal still stands; The Mobile Garden addresses urban stewardship with an art installation of a native plant garden onto an open-air flat car of the CTA. The idea is that the installation will encourage discourse on urban stewardship, public art, and sustainable materials. The CTA given the project it's blessing to move forward, provided us with estimates, workflows, and the noisivelvet organization is working on securing partners to carry the contract with the CTA.
